Boris With Michio Kurihara - Cloud Chamber (2008)

New release by Boris and Michio Kurihara. Don't expect this CD to sound anything like Rainbows, which is one of my favourite Boris releases. Spread over two 18-minutes track, this CD sounds more like early drone/noise Boris with extensive use of feedback and electronic noise.

Nadja - Radiance of Shadows (2007)

Nadja is a drone doom band based in Toronto, Canada featuring Aidan Baker (vocals/guitars/electronics) and Leah Buckareff (bass/vocals). They are often compared with Sunn O))) and Earth but their sound is similar to ambient artists such as Fennesz and Tim Hecker, but with more of a metal sensibility. Radiance of Shadows is my personal favourite Nadja record. At times, the music is violent, conjuring an image of an intense snowfall similar to the one on the album art. Suddenly, the music dies down, halting the snowfall for a few moments before it begins again.

Track Listing:
  1. Now I Am Become Death, the Destroyer of Worlds - 23:27
  2. I Have Tasted the Fire Inside Your Mouth - 27:26

Krallice - Krallice (2008)

My favourite metal release for this year, this self-debut album by Krallice features Mick Barr (Orthrelm) and Colin Marston (Behold... The Arctopus). This album is similar to materials by Weakling and early Ulver, but is more technical in nature. Definitely get this album if you are a fan of Black Metal. The standout track from this album is definitely the 15-minute album closer, "Forgiveness In Rot". The first 10 minutes of the song begins with pounding riffs, slowly building tension, until a maelstrom is released during the last 5 minutes of the song.
